Microsoft Outlook does not support desktop alerts as standard when using the IMAP protocol for email. To enable desktop alerts a rule needs to be set in Outlook. Please follow the instructions below to enable in Outlook.
Outlook 2003
- Start Outlook
- Go to Tools -> Rules and Alerts
- Select New Rule
- Select Start from a blank rule
- Select Check Messages when they arrive
- Click Next
- Click Next
- Select Yes to apply the rule to every message
- Select the checkbox for "display a Desktop Alert"
- Select Finish
- Select OK
Outlook 2007
- Start Outlook
- Go to Tools -> Rules and Alerts
- Select New Rule
- Select Check Messages when they arrive
- Click Next
- Click Next
- Select Yes to apply the rule to every message
- Select the checkbox for "display a Desktop Alert"
- Select Finish
- Select OK
